TWELVE ATHLETES SELECTED TO REPRESENT GB & NI AT THE 2025 IAU WORLD 24 HOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS

UK Athletics has today announced a full team of 12 athletes selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2025 IAU World 24 Hour Championships in Albi, France, taking place on 18–19 October.

The Championships, held biennially, will see the world’s top ultra-distance athletes compete to cover the greatest distance possible within a 24-hour period on a looped course, with individual and team honours at stake.

The women’s team includes Sarah Webster (Lewes AC, David Leach), a World bronze medallist over 50km and 100km, who brings a strong championship record and marathon experience from the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Joanna Zakrzewski (Durham/Dumfries) is a European and World 100km bronze medallist and currently holds the British 24-hour record with a mark of 247.984km.

Sophie Power (Guildford & Godalming, Edwina Sutton), who finished 19th at the 2023 World Championships and ranks seventh on the UK all-time list with 235.739km, also earns selection. Joining them are Kelsey Price (RunHead AC, David Bone), winner of the 2024 Crawley 24hr with 231.820km, Alison Young (Chiltern Harriers, Robbie Britton), a regular GB & NI performer with a PB of 224.534km, and Jennifer Coleman (Les Croupiers), who brings further major championship experience and a best of 227.715km.

On the men’s side, current British 24-hour record holder Matthew Field (Bad Boy Running Club, Nathan Flear), who set the mark of 281.303km at Gloucester in 2024, leads a strong line-up. He is joined by former British record holder and 2015 World bronze medallist Robbie Britton (North Norfolk Beach Runners, Tom Craggs), who holds a PB of 277.439km.

Dan Lawson (TRA, Robbie Britton), the 2016 European Champion with a lifetime best of 273.003km, adds further experience to the squad. Christopher Kelly (Vegan Runners) was the winner of the 24 heures d’Albi with a PB of 273.375km, one of the top British performances of recent years. Paul Maskell (St Austell, Robbie Britton), who finished 24th at the last World Championships and seventh at the 2022 European edition, returns with a best of 265.302km. Ben Wernick (Ogmore Wolves), who won the 2023 Self-Transcendence 24hr with 245.425km, completes the men’s team.
