The star-studded line-up for the Novuna UK Athletics Championships continues to grow, as iconic medallists from the Olympic, European and World Championships prepare to descend upon Alexander Stadium this weekend to compete for national titles across Saturday and Sunday, with some eyeing up European qualification. You can follow the results live on Microplus.

British record holder and the 100m defending champion, Zharnel Hughes (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) will be fending off 2025 World Champion Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) and 2024 European Silver Medallist Rommell Glave (Croydon Harriers). Off the back of his GB & NI debut at the World Indoor Championships earlier this year, Jody Smith (Harrow AC) joins the mix. One to watch is Sammy Ball (Reading AC), a natural decathlete who has entered the 100m and long jump at these Championships.

Last year’s 200m Gold and Silver medallists will be returning, as Dina Asher-Smith (Blackheath & Bromley Harriers), Amy Hunt step back up. A return to the podium won’t be easy, with the return of Imani-Lara Lansiquot coming back after injury and Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers), off the back of setting a Welsh record over the distance.

Recent Uk Athletics Futures graduates Success Eduan (Sale Harriers Manchester) and Nia Wedderburn-Goodison (Harrow AC) will be competing, as well as Renee Regis (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers), who set a new Championship record at the Indoor Championships earlier in the year.

A stacked women’s 400m line-up sees Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson (Leigh Harriers) step down from her usual distance as she joins a field rich in 400m pedigree, led by British record holder and 2025 World Indoor Champion Amber Anning (Brighton & Hove AC) and current UK lead Yemi Mary John (Sheffield City & Dearne AC), who anchored the Novuna GB & NI team to bronze at the 2026 World Athletics Relays. The line-up also includes Paris Olympic relay medallists Laviai Nielsen (Enfield & Haringey AC) and Nicole Yeargin (Pitreavie AAC) and 2025 European U20 Champion Charlotte Henrich (Invicta East Kent).

The men’s 400m promises another fiercely competitive contest, led by Olympic silver medallist and European record holder Matt Hudson-Smith (Birchfield Harriers), who returns to his home stadium, where the newly erected Matt Hudson-Smith Stand now bears his name.

He is joined by 2024 European silver medallist Charlie Dobson (Colchester Harriers), who will be aiming to retain his national 400m title, and Alex Haydock-Wilson (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC), who was part of the 4x400m mixed bronze medal-winning team at the World Relay Championships.

An in-form Ben Pattison (Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC) will be looking towards the 800m title after taking the indoor title earlier in the year, but will have to battle past the likes of last year’s silver medallist Tiarnan Crorken (Preston AC) and Tokyo World Championship medallist Jake Wightman (Edinburgh AC) to do so.

Georgia Hunter-Bell (Belgrave Harriers) took a storming Diamond League victory in the 800m in Rome and will use that momentum to retain her national title, with Indoor Champion Issy Boffey (Enfield & Haringey AC) and Erin Wallace (Giffnock North) who made her World Championships debut last year in Tokyo and who clocked one of her fastest 1500m times at Stockholm Diamond League.

Adele Nicholl (Birchfield Harriers) will defend her shot put title, moving back to athletics after competing in the bobsleigh at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, but Indoor Champion Serena Vincent (City of Portsmouth AC) is looking strong after securing the Commonwealth standard just two weeks prior. Scott Lincoln (City of York AC) targets a twelfth shot put title.

Kimani Jack (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) took a triumphant first NCAA national title just a week ago in the high jump, and with last year’s champion Joel Clarke-Khan (Thames Valley Harriers) recently returning from injury, the men’s high jump competition will be hotly contested for. Josh Zeller (Bracknell AC) will be making an exciting return to the 110m hurdles after a difficult period coming back from injury.

Elise Thorner (Wells City Harriers / Yeovil Olympiads AC) took a massive PB in the 3000m steeplechase in Los Angeles, clocking 9:07.39 earlier this season, now sitting second on the all-time British list, just over three seconds off the British record. Having set the Championship record when she won the 2025 race, will she be looking at the British record this time around?

In the women’s 400m wheelchair race, T54 World bronze medallist Melanie Woods (Red Star AC) will go head to head with T34 World silver medallist Kare Adenegan (Coventry Godiva Harriers). World and Paralympic champion Jonnie Peacock (Charnwood AC) makes a well-anticipated return to the men’s 100m ambulant race, which also features Zac Shaw (Cleethorpes AC) and Thomas Young (Loughborough Students AC).

The 10,000m British title holder Joe Wigfield (Wirral AC) will be stepping onto the track as he tries to claim the double in the 5000m, with national record holder Andy Butchart (Central AC) also going the distance. In the women’s 5000m, a competitive field includes U20 European Champion Innes Fitzgerald (Exeter Harriers), 2025 5000m World finalist Hannah Nuttall (Charnwood AC), and Cross Country specialist Megan Keith (Inverness Harriers AAC) .
