A trio of world medallists, Malaika Mihambo (GER), Agate De Sousa (POR) and Claire Bryant (USA) will take to the London Stadium long jump runway at the Novuna London Athletics Meet, part of the Wanda Diamond League series.
The Paris Olympic silver medallist Malaika Mihambo (GER) will make a triumphant return to the capital after winning the long jump competition in each of the past two years. Last year, the German thrilled the 60,000-strong crowd with a dramatic competition-winning final jump of 6.93m, moving her from eighth place to first.
The two-time world champion opened her Diamond League campaign in Stockholm, where she finished sixth with a leap of 6.70m and most recently jumped 6.92m, a season’s best, to finish fifth at the Pre Classic in Eugene.
She will be joined by 2024 European bronze medallist Agate De Sousa (POR), another familiar face in London. De Sousa finished second behind Mihambo at the 2024 edition of the London Diamond League meeting with a top distance of 6.75m.
Since then, the Portuguese athlete has gone from strength to strength, claiming her first global title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń earlier this year.
The World indoor champion has been in strong form this season, producing a best jump of 6.97m, just 6cm shy of her personal best and Portuguese national record set in 2023.
Her appearance in London will be the European leader’s second Diamond League outing of the year after also competing in Stockholm, where she finished fifth with a distance of 6.70m and one place ahead of Mihambo.
They both build towards the European Championships that are taking place in Birmingham later this summer.
The 2025 World indoor champion, Claire Bryant (USA), has enjoyed a consistent start to the season. Bryant made her Diamond League series debut last year, going on to make the Diamond League Final, finishing fourth with a jump of 6.66m.
With no major championships on the horizon this summer, London presents an excellent opportunity for the American to strengthen her position in the Diamond League standings, having already competed at the series opener in Shaoxing followed by Stockholm and most recently jumping 6.58m at the Pre Classic.
The Novuna London Athletics Meet – the world’s biggest one-day athletics event – is the eleventh meeting of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League. The series comprises 15 of the most
prestigious events in global track and field across four different continents and began in Shanghai/Keqiao on 16 May. It concludes with a single final across two days in Brussels (4-5 September).
