Olajide finishes 10th in the long jump final at the World Athletics Indoor Championships

Funminiyi Olajide (Thurrock) finished 10th in her debut for GB & NI this morning in the women’s long jump final at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Olajide who jumped 6.67m last month in Fayetville to qualify for Nanjing opened her competition with 6.38m, fouled her second attempt but then improved to 6.41m for her third jump.

USA’s Claire Bryant took gold with a lifetime best of 6.96m.

“It was quite hectic out there trying to make it into the top ten. I was tenth and unfortunately, I couldn’t advance and make it into the top eight, but it was fun just to be out there,” said Olajide.

“It’s made me very excited this being my first senior competition. I’m just focussed now on outdoors and world outdoors. This champs has taught me just to push 100% and not be anxious.”
