BRITISH RECORDS, EUROPEAN LEADS AND MEDALS MARK A SUCCESSFUL MANNHEIM INTERNATIONAL GALA

A successful weekend for the Novuna Great Britain & Northern Ireland U20s team at the Mannheim International Gala saw Tito Odunaike (club:Marshall Milton Keynes, coach:David Johnson) recorded a European U20 leading mark, and the mixed 4x100m team of Matthew Ajayi (Watford Harriers), Ava Freeman  (Birchfield Harriers, Sharon Morris), Joel Masters (Birchfield Harriers, Andy Paul) and Savannah Morgan-McKenzie (Rugby & Northampton AC, Matthew Thomas) set a new U20s British Record of 42.21 alongside a plethora of other medals being brought home.

There was British success across both of 4x100m mixed relay teams, two of the U20 British Record breakers Ajayi and Morgan-McKenzie returned the following day alongside Maizie Boylan (Great Yarmouth & District AC, Liam Boylan) and James Arminio (Gloucester AC / Speed Project Training) in a second 4x100m mixed relay race to win in 42.87.

Tito Odunaike continued his breakthrough 2026 season, setting a European U20-leading mark of 16.12m in the triple jump on his fourth-round attempt; a huge new personal best. Harley Henry (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, Craig Andrew) jumped 15.20m, narrowly missing out on the podium.

Thea Brown (Sale Harriers Manchester, Ashley Bryant) a season’s best of 13.30 to finish second in her 100m hurdles heat but chose to withdraw from the final as it clashed with the long jump. She went on to win the long jump with another season’s best of 6.19m, achieved on her third jump. Toby Wright (Taunton AC, Steve Shaw) claimed a season’s best in the men’s 110m hurdles, placing eighth hitting world U20s standard.

Daniel Emegbor (Harrow AC, Rohan Samuel) took victory in the men’s long jump, producing his best effort of 7.68m in the final round. In the men’s high jump, Otis Poole (Yate & District AC, Joy Bray) cleared 2.14m to claim victory, while Tom Rutter (Harrow AC, Tom Dobbing) threw 60.53m with his opening effort in the javelin to finish fourth.

Elsewhere in the relays quartet of Luc Macleod (Glasgow Jaguars T&F Club, Tom Leeson), Shiloh Omotosho (Basildon AC, Sarah Robinson), Rowan Whittaker (City of York AC, Paul Daynes) and Casey Musgrave (City of Sheffield, Mark Fowler) led from gun to tape, running 3:22.53 in the 4x400m mixed relay to take victory.

In the women’s 4x100m, GB & NI secured silver in the first race with a time of 44.44, courtesy of Holly Whittaker (Aberdeen AAC, Frank Gauld), Sophie Thomas (Dunfermline Track and Field, Agustin Osorio), Emma Clark (Whitemoss AAC, Angela Young) and Cara Monachello (Kilmarnock Harriers & AC, Kevin Mitchell). The second race was faster overall, with Lily Bradley (City of Norwich AC, Joseph McDonnell), Sophie Thomas (Dunfermline Track and Field, Agustin Osorio), Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers, Lisa Waddon) and Tami George (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, Ty Holden) taking third in 44.35.

The men’s 4x100m relay team also claimed second place, running 39.84. The line-up featured Divine Iheme (Radley AC / PWD Athletics Academy, Nkiruka Iheme) on the first leg, followed by Dylan Williams (BFT Track Academy, TJ Ossai), Farrell Fabusiwa (Croydon Harriers, Paul Weston) and Tyler Thompson (Enfield & Haringey AC). Elsewhere, Sophie Thomas set a European U20-leading time of 23.22 in the 200m guest race.
