SPAR BRITISH ATHLETICS INDOOR CHAMPS TO BE STREAMED ON BRITISHATHLETICS.ORG.UK & BBC SPORT

British Athletics has announced that the SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships will be streamed live via both www.britishathletics.org.uk and the BBC Sport website on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 February.

The event takes place at Arena Birmingham, Birmingham and will feature many of the country’s best athletes as they battle it out for a place on the British Athletics team at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham on 1-4 March, as well as the honour of being crowned British champion.

Both days of the championships will be shown live on the British Athletics website, with BBC Sport also broadcasting the stream via their ‘live’ section of the BBC website.

Live commentary will be provided by Kris Temple and world and European 800m medallist Jenny Meadows, with Loughborough Sport’s Pete Matthews providing supporting commentary alongside the pair for the opening hours of each session.

Middle distance star Laura Muir (coach: Andy Young, club: Dundee Hawkhill), grand-slam long jump champion Greg Rutherford (Dan Pfaff, Marshall Milton Keynes) and heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Liverpool Harriers) will be among the star attractions in Birmingham this weekend.

In the sprints and hurdles action, reigning European Indoor champions Richard Kilty (Middlesbrough), Asha Philip (Steve Fudge, Newham Essex & Beagles) and Andy Pozzi (Benke Blomkvist, Stratford-upon-Avon) will all be in attendance as they bid to top the podium and secure team spots.

Appearing alongside Laura Muir in the women’s 3000m will be fellow British internationals Eilish McColgan (Liz McColgan, Dundee Hawkhill), Steph Twell (Geoff Wightman, Aldershot Farnham & District) Jess Judd (Mick Judd, Chelmsford), Rosie Clark (David Harmer, Epsom & Ewell) and Melissa Courtney (Rob Denmark, Shaftesbury Barnet), with the race sure to be one of the events of the weekend.

In the field, double world and Paralympic champion Aled Davies (Ryan Spencer-Jones, Cardiff) will hope to make headlines as he throws the 7.26kg implement for the first time in a championship environment, while fellow world para athletics champion Olivia Breen (Aston Moore, City of Portsmouth) also goes in the women’s long jump alongside the likes of Johnson-Thompson.

British Athletics Major Events Director Cherry Alexander said: “On the back of the success we saw last year’s stream achieve, we are delighted that we can offer this service once again to anyone who isn’t able to make it to Arena Birmingham this weekend.

“The SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships is the first of a string of superb events here in the UK this year, and we are sure that the Arena Birmingham will play host to some special performances over the course of this weekend.”
