Corbishley sets new British record at first Half Marathon Race Walk National Championships
The inagural UK Athletics Half Marathon race walk event took place on where Cameron Corbishley (Medway and Maidstone, coached by Andi Drake) clocked a new British record of 1:30:53.
The event was staged at the British Grand Prix of Race Walking and held at the Brownlee Centre in Leeds, brought to life by England Athletics Competition Grant who made this landmark event possible.
Cameron Corbishley (Medway and Maidstone, coached by Andi Drake), just two weeks after finishing 32nd at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships over the marathon distance, claimed both the UK and England titles over the Half Marathon distance. He clocked a new British record of 1:30:53 with the event incorporating the inaugural UK Athletics and England Athletics Championships over the new international distance.
Cumali Arslan claimed second and kept pace with Corbishley in the early stages of the race, crossing the line with a personal best of 1:33:07.
Emily Ghose (Tonbridge AC, coached by Noel Cramdoy) also made history, taking the first ever UK and England Athletics Half Marathon titles in the women’s race with 2:03:58.
In the 10km race, 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Bethan Davies (Cardiff Athletics) took victory in 49:37, ahead of Adam Cowin in 50:26 and Abigail Jennings (Aldershot Farnham & District, coached by Verity Snook), who recorded a personal best of 50:33.
In the age‑group events, Timothy Perry (Northern AC, Isle of Man) won the England Athletics Under‑18 title over 5km in 25:57. Honey‑Mae Davies (Manx Harriers) claimed the Under‑18 girls’ title with a new personal best of 29:29, while Lilee Fletcher‑Merryweather (Manx Harriers) secured the England Under‑16 title over 3km in a swift 14:34.
