World 4x100m champion and British 200m star Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (coach: Dennis Shaver club: Newham & Essex Beagles) will make his race debut in Scotland next year when the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow heads to the Emirates Arena on Sunday 25 February 2018.
Ranked as the number one indoor athletics meeting in the world, the Müller Indoor Grand Prix returns to Scotland having been held in Glasgow for the first time in 2016 as the city alternates hosting with Birmingham up to 2020.
Accompanying Eilidh Doyle (Brian Doyle, Pitreavie) in being announced for February’s Grand Prix, 9.99 (100m) and 19.95 (200m) man Mitchell-Blake will line up in the 60m, an event set to feature many of the world’s best sprinters, many of whom will be announced in the coming weeks and months.
Looking ahead to the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow, Mitchell-Blake said:
“I’m really excited to compete in Glasgow for the first time – after the whirlwind of London 2017 I’m ready to hit the ground running in 2018, and the world’s best indoor grand prix is the best place to do just that.”
On his expectation of the crowd at the Emirates Arena, Mitchell-Blake added:
“Scotland is making waves with its athletes and I’m sure they’ll go crazy for all the British athletes competing at the Grand Prix.
“From what I’ve heard from other members of the British team the crowds up in Scotland are amazing and not shy to voice their support, so hopefully I can use that to my advantage on February 25.”
British Athletics’ Major Event Director, Cherry Alexander said:
“Nethaneel’s performances over the past two years stand him out as a phenomenal talent in a time of real excitement for British sprinting, so for the people of Scotland to be able to see him compete in Glasgow for the very first time will make for a great experience.
“The images of Nethaneel bringing home world 4x100m gold for Great Britain & Northern Ireland will become iconic in the years to come, and I’m sure that his presence in Glasgow will quite rightly generate a lot of excitement.”
The Müller Grand Prix Glasgow is the final of the prestigious IAAF World Indoor Tour, with wildcards for the IAAF World Indoor Championships available to athletes who have not already qualified to compete for their nation.
