Weekend update: Bosworth wins in Portugal

Campeonato Nacional de Marcha Estrada, Portugal, 20 December

Tom Bosworth (Andi Drake; Tonbridge) competed in his first 20km race walk since the World Athletics Championships in Doha, winning the event in Portugal in a time of 83:56.

After contracting covid-19 in March, this was the Leeds-based athlete’s first competitive race since the England Athletics 10km Championships on March 1st.

Winning by a margin of over a minute and a half, it was an encouraging return to action for the 30-year-old.

The Marathon Project, Chandler, Arizona, 20 December

Sarah Inglis (Lothian) secured a significant marathon personal best but was narrowly outside the Olympic Games qualifying standard by 11 seconds.

The Scottish athlete, competing in her first marathon, clocked an impressive time of 2:29:41 to finish ninth overall.

In the men’s race, there was also a PB for Matt Leach (Philip O’Dell; Bedford & County) as he crossed the line in 2:17:38 on his marathon debut.
