WEEKEND UPDATE
NCAA DI Championships, Wisconsin, USA, 17 November
Ryan Forsyth (club: Newcastle & District) was the standout British performer at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships held on a snowy course in North East America, the Colorado University student missing out on a top ten finish by just four seconds. In a closely fought race where the top 11 were separated by a mere 13 seconds, Forsyth fought hard all the way, helping his University side to a fourth place finish in the team competition.
Next Brit home was Stuart McCallum (coach: Bud Baldaro; club: Winchester), his 48th place finish was just short of 10 seconds outside All-American status (top 40), but did earn him a team bronze with his Portland University side.
There was further team success in the women’s race as Hannah Nuttall (John Nuttall; Charnwood) was part of the silver medal winning New Mexico team as she finished 71st. Julia Paternain (Mark Vile; Cambridge & Coleridge), who will fly back to the UK to compete in this weekend’s European Cross Country trials in Liverpool, came home in 125th for Penn State.
