Away from the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Liverpool, there were further notable results on the terrain as well as on the roads.

Firenze Marathon, Florence, Italy, 24/11/2019

Jess Piasecki (Robert Hawkins; Stockport) claimed a maiden marathon victory as she cut the tape first in Florence in 2:25:28.

Piasecki ran a smart race and clocked the fastest time of the year by a British athlete, beating Charlotte Purdue’s 2:25:38 and making her the third fastest British woman over the marathon of all time behind Paula Radcliffe and Mara Yamauchi.

NCAA Cross Country Division One Championships, Indiana, USA, 23/11/2019

Patrick Dever (Andy Bibby; Preston) ran a superb race to claim 11th spot at the NCAA Championships, clocking 31:00 and helping Tulsa University to a fifth place finish in the team standings.

Euan Makepeace (Matt Roe; Charnwood) also produced a good showing to take 15th position and cross the line as first scorer for Butler University five seconds further back.

The women’s equivalent saw Hannah Nuttall (John Nuttall; Charnwood) the first British athlete home, claiming 35th position in 20:43, while European Under-23 10,000m sixth placer Jodie Judd (Mick Judd; Chelmsford) clocked a respectable 21:02, good enough for 62nd place, with Poppy Tank (Simon Anderson; City of Plymouth) four seconds further back in 74th.
