TRIO SET FOR 2022 BRUSSELS DIAMOND LEAGUE

The penultimate stop on the 2022 Wanda Diamond League series takes place in Brussels on Friday (2) evening with three British athletes in action at the Memorial van damme.

Scottish trio Laura Muir, Jake Wightman and Mel Woods are all competing during the programme of events across the evening session.

World 1500m champion Jake Wightman (coach: Geoff Wightman, club: Edinburgh) will continue his 800m run as he takes on a truly world-class field in Belgium at 20:52 BST.

The European silver medallist will take on all three world medallists from Oregon: Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir (KEN), Marco Arop (CAN) and Djamel Sedjati (ALG). He’ll also face Mariano Garcia (ESP) who narrowly beat him to gold in Munich just under a fortnight ago.

World silver medallist Laura Muir (Andy Young, Dundee Hawkhill) will return to 1500m [20:36] action as she follows on from an outdoor 3000m PB set in Lausanne last week.

Muir, who also won European and Commonwealth gold this summer, will once again face Ciara Mageean (IRE) who has sealed silver medals behind Muir at both of those events in the last few weeks. 2022 World indoor silver medallist Axumawit Embaye (ETH) is also in the field.

Paralympic finalist Mel Woods (Rodger Harkins, Red Star) takes on the women’s 100m wheelchair race earlier in the programme. Woods, who has set a personal best in every event from 100m up to 1500m this season, will face home favourite Lea Bayekula (BEL) at 17:17.

The Brussels Diamond League will be broadcast live on BBC Three from 19:00 on Friday 2 September.
