TICKET REGISTRATION OPENS FOR MÜLLER BIRMINGHAM DIAMOND LEAGUE

  • World Class Athletics to take place on 21 May in key Commonwealth Games test event

UK Athletics (UKA) today opened ticket registration for the Müller Birmingham Diamond League set to take place in the newly renovated Alexander Stadium.

The fixture, the second stage of the prestigious Wanda Diamond League series will see the World’s biggest track and field stars compete in the iconic venue that will host this summer’s Commonwealth Games athletics programme.

In an exciting year for the sport boasting no less than four major track and field championships, the Müller Birmingham Diamond League will be a key part of the summer events programme. British fans will see an exciting showpiece giving the West Midlands the best possible preparation for welcoming the best athletes from across the Commonwealth.

UKA’s Strategic Lead for Major Events & International Relations Cherry Alexander said:

“We are so excited to be returning to the Alexander Stadium for the Müller Birmingham Diamond League in May.

“We know the stars of athletics love coming to the UK and that the fans will give them the warmest of West Midland welcomes! The event will give athletes fantastic preparation for the major championships this summer as they take on the best in the world.

“We’re looking forward to working closely with our partners at Birmingham City Council and Birmingham 2022 to bring together a world class test event for this fantastic stadium. Fans should sign up for latest updates to make sure they are first in line when tickets go on sale next month.”

Councillor Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “The Müller Birmingham Diamond League will kick start Birmingham’s biggest ever summer of sport and is the perfect launch event for the new-look Alexander Stadium.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy world-class action at a venue that has already been hailed as the best athletics stadium in the country, so I would urge sports fans to register for tickets quickly to avoid disappointment.”

Ian Reid, CEO of Birmingham 2022 said: “It’s fantastic to have such a prestigious event being staged in one of our crucial venues for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

“The Müller Birmingham Diamond League will be an excellent chance for some of the athletes from the home nations, and from around the Commonwealth, to test out the superb facilities at the newly transformed Alexander Stadium where the Birmingham 2022 athletics and Para athletics programme will begin on 2 August.”
