THREE FURTHER SELECTIONS MADE TO PARALYMPICSGB ATHLETICS TEAM FOR TOKYO 2020

Three additional athletes have been selected to the ParalympicsGB athletics team for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo next month, fulfilling the allocation of quota places and joining the 44 athletes recently confirmed.

Fabienne André, Shaun Burrows and Melanie Woods all join the team in Tokyo, and all three will make their debut appearances at a Paralympic Games.

André secured double European gold in Bydgoszcz in June this year, winning the T34 100m and 800m titles and she will join Hannah Cockroft and Kare Adenegan in those events in Japan.

Burrows returned to the British squad at the Europeans earlier this year following several years of injury after he won world T38 400m bronze in 2015. The Charnwood athlete also won the silver medal in the event.

Like André, Woods is a British Athletics Futures Academy athlete, and she earns a call-up to the team in the T54 400m and 800m. The Scottish athlete improved her best times over the distances to 56.16 and 1:52.40 respectively during the 2021 season and also competed at the European Para Athletics Championships earlier this year.

Penny Briscoe, ParalympicsGB Chef de Mission said: “Welcoming Paralympic Games debutants to the team is always a great pleasure, and I am delighted that Fabienne, Shaun and Melanie now have the opportunity to showcase their talent and ability on the biggest stage of all at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games this summer. I would like to congratulate all three athletes on their selection and look forward to joining them on their journey to Japan.”
