UK 10,000m Championships all set for Birmingham this weekend
This Saturday, the best British distance runners will take to the University of Birmingham athletics track for the UK 10,000m Championships. It is the finale of a day of athletic festivities, which is a time to attend and cheer on the athletes.
The start lists for the men’s and women’s races are now live. These championships are also serving as the official trial for the World Athletics Championships in September of this year. The UKA World Championships consideration standards are 27:20.00 for the men and 31:10.00 for the women.
The men’s race is stacked full of talent; last year’s British champion, Patrick Dever, is back, and he will race alongside British road record holder Rory Leonard and Ellis Cross, who has the fastest time this season over this distance. Additionally, we will see Paris Olympian Emile Cairess, who has already booked his spot in the GB&NI team for this year’s World Championships in Tokyo in the marathon event.
Last year’s British champion, Megan Keith, will go again in the women’s race and will be joined by in form Calli Hauger-Thackery, who ran a new personal best at the most recent Diamond League in Oslo to claim the quickest time in the UK over this distance this year. Alongside them, we will see the experienced Jess Warner-Judd back on track, who has the fastest personal best time among the athletes.
If you cannot make the event, you can watch the races on the University of Birmingham’s YouTube channel here.
