SWISS NATIONALS MEETING WRAP-UP

The Swiss series ended at the Swiss Nationals over the weekend in Nottwil, with Richard Chiassaro’s (Jenni Banks) T54 800m world record coming alongside solid times from multiple global medallists Hannah Cockroft (Banks) and Richard Whitehead (Keith Antoine).

Chiassaro also won the 2:59.48, placing second behind America’s Daniel Romanchuk. He also won the 400m, coming a few days after his European record over the distance.

Whitehead set yet to be ratified world records in the new T61 classification – for double through or above knee amputees – over the 200m and 400m. The 400m best of 50.26 was an outright best for Whitehead who last completed a race over the distance in 2011.

Over 200m, he improved upon Thursday’s race, clocking 23.93 (0.9).

Elsewhere, there was a quadruple victory for Hannah Cockroft over the weekend, clocking times of 17.48 (0.1), 30.56 (0.7), 58.07 and 1:57.78 respectively. After just missing out on the 200m record last week, she was just 0.05 seconds outside on the occasion.
