RABAT DIAMOND LEAGUE PREVIEW
Ten British athletes will be in action at the IAAF Diamond League in Rabat this evening, as the series continues.
After her exploits in Oslo last month, lowering her 100m British record, Dina Asher-Smith (John Blackie) goes in the 200m in Morocco. Fellow Briton Jodie Williams also competes over the distance, going into it with a season’s best of 22.75.
The pair takes on Commonwealth champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo (BAH) as well as the world indoor 60m champion, Murielle Ahoure (CIV).
Morgan Lake (Fuzz Caan) takes on world leader Mariya Lasitskene (ANA) in the high jump, not long after setting a personal best of 1.97m at the Muller British Athletics Championships recently.
In the men’s sprints, Britons Reece Prescod (Jonas Dodoo) and CJ Ujah take on a loaded field over 100m. Prescod won in Shanghai earlier this year while Ujah won the Diamond League title over the distance in 2017.
All eyes will be on joint world leads Ronnie Baker and Noah Lyles, both have enjoyed an excellent run of form on the circuit in recent years. World silver medallist Christian Coleman is also among the line-up after recent injuries.
Matthew Hudson-Smith (Lance Braumann) goes in a wide-open men’s 400m field, with a season’s best of 44.68 coming at the British Championships. This will be only a second diamond league of the season for the Birchfield Harrier who placed seventh in Rome. Jamaica’s Akeem Bloomfield is the quickest in the field on paper so far in 2018 with season best 43.94.
Lynsey Sharp (Terrence Mahon) and Charlie Da’Vall Grice (Jon Bigg) go in the women’s 800m and men’s 1500m respectively while Eilish McColgan (Liz Nuttall) and Steph Twell (Geoff Wightman) take on the women’s 5000m.
Twell – the trials winner – goes in having confirmed her place on the squad for August’s European Championships. McColgan was narrowly outside her 1500m PB last week, so will be eyeing a strong showing over the longer event this evening.
