2nd March 2018

PREVIEW: DAY TWO EVENING

It will be a busy evening of track and field for the British team with no less than 11 athletes competing at Arena Birmingham.

After a strong morning session by Katarina Johnson-Thompson (coach: Bertrand Valcin) in the pentathlon, she is placed in second overall with only the long jump and 800m to come. The 2015 European Indoor champion is just 13 points shy of current leader Yorgelis Rodriguez of Cuba on 2873 points.

Asha Philip (Steve Fudge) and Bianca Williams (Lloyd Cowan) contest the women’s 60m semi-finals, and should they qualify, the final will take place later this evening.

British Athletics’ newest world indoor medallist Laura Muir (Andy Young) is back in action this evening, this time over 1500m. She goes in the heats alongside Eilish McColgan (Liz Nuttall).

After all making it through the heats unscathed during the morning session, GB & NI will have representation in the 400m semi-finals from Eilidh Doyle (Brian Doyle), Zoey Clark (Eddie McKenna) and Lee Thompson (John Henson).

Hometown favourite Elliot Giles (Jon Bigg) gets his first world indoors experience this evening in the 800m; the Birchfield Harrier going in the first of two heats. Elsewhere, Megan Marrs (Jerzy Maciukiewicz) and Marilyn Nwawulor (Lloyd Cowan) make their first appearances of these championships in the 60m hurdles.
