Power of 10 update from Jack Buckner

A Power of 10 update from UK Athletics CEO Jack Buckner.

I hope you’re all well — and looking forward to the year ahead in athletics.

It’s shaping up to be a hugely exciting one, not least with the UK hosting the European Athletics Championships for the very first time.

As many of you will be aware, in recent weeks the hugely popular Power of 10 website has been offline while some significant development work has taken place. I wanted to take a moment to explain why — and what’s coming next.

To do that, it’s worth going back to 2005. At that time, the then CEO of UK Athletics, Dave Moorcroft, had a clear ambition: to help elevate and encourage improving performances across the sport in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Working with a number of partners, that ambition became the Power of 10 — a platform designed to shine a light on performances, rankings and progression across the sport. It launched a year later, in 2006, and has since grown into the most popular athletics-related website in the UK, becoming a core part of the fabric of our sport.

Now, nearly 20 years on, we believe it’s the right moment to take Power of 10 forward again.

Our aim is to retain everything people value — the rankings, statistics and depth of information the sport relies on — while also developing the site into a more engaging home for athletics content, with new and exciting ways for users to follow results, performances and what’s happening across the sport.

Along the way, Power of 10 has been supported by dedicated teams of operators who have taken it from its original launch to where it is today. We are hugely grateful to everyone who has worked on the site over the years and helped keep it running as such an essential resource for athletics in this country.

We’ve now entered into a new partnership with people who share a long-term vision for the site and its potential value to the sport. Over the last year, working together, we’ve been developing a new platform — and we’re now ready to take the next step.

That means we’re launching a beta version of the new Power of 10 site.

Being clear, this is an early release. Some areas will still be evolving, and there may be bugs or features that need refining. And that’s deliberate.

We want you — the athletics community — to help us shape it. By using the site, feeding back, and flagging issues, you’ll play a vital role in helping us improve it and make it better for everyone.

Our ambition is simple: to work with the sport to make Power of 10 the best athletics website in the world.

We’re incredibly excited to continue this remarkable project — one that began back in 2005 with the creativity and vision of Dave Moorcroft — and to bring it forward into its next chapter.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to sharing the new site with you, and over the coming weeks and months, working together to make it the very best it can be.
