Laura Muir (coach: Andy Young, club: Dundee Hawkhill) clocked an outdoor 3000m lifetime best and Josh Kerr (Danny Mackey, Edinburgh) came through for fourth in the men’s 1500m at the 11^th stop in the Wanda Diamond League calendar in Lausanne, Switzerland on Friday evening (26 August).

In a blisteringly fast men’s 1500m, Josh Kerr was the fastest of the four Brits in the contest as he crossed the line in fourth in a race won by Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen in a world lead of 3:29.05. Kerr, the Olympic silver medallist, finished strongly to clock 3:32.28, working his way up the field on the final lap.

European silver medallist Jake Heyward (Mark Rowland, Cardiff) was the next British finisher in ninth in a time of 3:34.99, narrowly ahead of Matthew Stonier (Chris and Sonia McGeorge, Invicta East Kent) who was 10^th in 3:35.57, while Neil Gourley (Ben Thomas, Giffnock North) was 14^th.

World, European and Commonwealth medallist, Laura Muir improved her outdoor 3000m personal best to 8:30.53 for seventh place after a frantic final lap in Lausanne. Muir was well poised at the bell as she was within the leading group, but as the pace at the front accelerated, the Briton could no go with it. The race was won by a fast-finishing Francine Niyonsaba in 8:26.80 who pipped America’s Alicia Monson on the line by one hundredth.

Going out in lane one, Jodie Williams (Stuart McMillan, Herts Phoenix) came home in eighth position in the women’s 400m recording a time of 52.31. The race was won by Marileidy Paulino (DOM) from Sada Williams (BAH) in 49.87.

Competing in his first Diamond League race, European relay gold medallist Charlie Dobson (Benke Blomkvist) was eighth in a stacked men’s 200m line-up, posting a time of 20.34 (1.3 m/s).

A highly competitive men’s 1500m wheelchair race saw Commonwealth silver medallist Danny Sidbury (Christine Parsloe, Sutton & District) finish second behind home favourite Marcel Hug, and he narrowly beat Commonwealth champion Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins, Kirkby) into second place by 0.03; their times were 3:14.35 and 3:14.38 respectively.

In a bunched finish, David Weir (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) was fifth in a time of 3:14.69, while Dillon Labrooy (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) was seventh, crossing the line in 3:20.94.

In the non-Diamond League women’s 800m, Jemma Reekie (Andy Young, Kilbarchan) ran a brilliant last 200m to gain some places for third position overall in a time of 1:59.00 in a race won by France’s Renelle Lamote who clocked a PB of 1:57.84.

Elsewhere, George Mills (Brighton Phoenix) won the men’s non-Diamond League 800m in a season best of 1:46.74.
