ONE MONTH UNTIL SPAR BRITISH ATHLETICS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

With the SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships now just one month away, many of Britain’s best athletes are continuing to confirm their attendance as the run-in to the championships continues.

Heading to Glasgow’s Emirates Arena for the very-first time, and a key stepping stone for many athletes in the run-in to Tokyo 2020, the championships will see the best athletes from the UK compete for national titles across the weekend of Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 February 2020.

Among those to have confirmed their attendance so far are a host of event-leaders at current, with 2019 world finalist and outdoor British champion Abigail Irozuru (Sale Harriers Manchester) heading up the women’s long jump field alongside Jazmin Sawyers (Lance Brauman, City of Stoke).

Joining the pair in field event action, and fresh from a becoming the first British woman in 36 years to qualify for a shot put final at last October’s World Championships in Doha, the ever-improving Sophie McKinna (Mike Winch, Great Yarmouth) has also confirmed her attendance at the championships as she bids to retain her title following a maiden win last year.

Having tied the British indoor high jump record during the 2019 indoor season, Morgan Lake (Eldon Lake, Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow) is another who will aim to kick off 2020 strongly as she too aims to win a fifth straight British indoor title.

On-track, and sure to be buoyed by familiar Scottish support, double European U23 champion Jemma Reekie (Andy Young, Kilbarchan) has accepted invitations to compete over both 800m and 1500m, while fellow Scot and multi-international 4×400 medallist Zoey Clark (Eddie McKenna, Thames Valley) has also accepted invites for two events in the 60m and 400m.

One of the stand-out performers in 2019 having won British titles indoors and outdoors as well as qualifying for the world 1500m final, Neil Gourley (Mark Rowland, Giffnock North) is another Scot who will relish competing on his own patch while bidding to retain his title.
