OGBECHIE AND PAYNE TO CO-CAPTAIN THE BRITISH TEAM AT THE EUROPEAN ATHLETICS U20 CHAMPIONSH

Dominic Ogbechie (coach: Marius Guei, club: Highgate) and Charlotte Payne (Paul Dickenson, Reading) have been chosen as team captains of the British team for the European Athletics U20 Championships which begin on Thursday 15 July and run until Sunday 18 July.

Ogbechie won the European U18 title in the high jump back in 2018. He won the trial at the England Athletics U20 / U23 Championships back in June to earn the second British vest of his career to date.

Payne finished seventh in the women’s hammer at the last edition of the European Athletics U20 Championships in 2019. She sits second on the U20 UK all-time list with her best of 64.09m set at Milton Keynes earlier this month.

Ethan Hussey [800m] and Jason Kalala [200m and 4x100m relay] have both withdrawn from the Championships. Daniel Howells (Richard Ashe, Aldershot Farnham and District) has been called-up to replace Hussey in the men’s 800m.

30 British athletes are in action on day one of the Championships with action getting underway in 8:00am on Thursday morning, which will be streamed on the European Athletics website.

Timetable and live results can be found here.
