With just under three months to go until the London Athletics Meet, part of the Wanda Diamond League series, the USA’s six-time world champion Noah Lyles has been confirmed to compete in the men’s 100m on Saturday 20 July at the London Stadium.

Sprinting superstar Lyles won a hattrick of gold medals at last year’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, making it a clean sweep in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, and he will race in London on the eve of this summer’s Olympic Games.

The 2024 edition of the London Athletics Meet will be an unmissable event in the sporting calendar as it acts as the last major competition before Paris 2024 – just six days before the Opening Ceremony – and it is a perfect opportunity for fans to wish the world’s best athletes’ good luck for the Games.

Lyles returns to the London Stadium after running one of the quickest 200m in history at the event last year when he clocked 19.47. The time was the quickest in 2023 and set him up for his trio of world titles in Budapest just one month later.

Lyles said, “Last year was my first time competing in London and to run such a fast time was a great experience.  The atmosphere in the London Stadium was incredible and I could feel the energy coming from the crowd. I always want to give something special to all those who come out to see us, and I look forward to doing that at this year’s Diamond League event in July.”

Strategic Lead for Major Events at UK Athletics, Cherry Alexander said, “We are really excited to be announcing one of the world’s best athletes for the London Athletics Meet with just under three months to go. Noah has established himself as one of the greatest sprinters in the history of the sport, and after his stunning 200m performance at the London Stadium last year, we are delighted to be welcoming him back to the London Stadium to contest the 100m, just a matter of days before the Olympic Games gets underway.

“The London Athletics Meet always creates an amazing atmosphere for the world’s leading athletes to compete in, so with 43,000 tickets already sold, this is your chance to see the best in the world compete in their last major competition before Paris gets underway. It’s an unmissable event, so get your tickets today for the biggest one-day event in world athletics.”

The Wanda Diamond League series comprises 15 meetings in total across four different continents and started with Xiamen (China) on 20 April. It concludes with a single final across two days in Brussels (13-14 September). Each of the 14 series meetings will be broadcast globally in a live two-hour programme.

Tickets to this year’s London Athletics Meet start from just £23 and are on track to sell out in record time. For more information about the event and to secure your place visit: https://www.britishathletics.org.uk/events-and-tickets/london-athletics-meet-2024/
