MORGAN LAKE TO CAPTAIN THE NOVUNA GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHEN IRELAND TEAM IN TOKYO

The newly crowned British 2-metre high jumper Morgan Lake will captain the team in Tokyo at the 2025 World Athletics Championships which begin on 13 September.

The team captain is voted by her fellow GB & NI teammates in Japan, upon announcing Morgan was greeted by a very loud round of applause she then gave the traditional captains speech, where she shared her own experiences and advice to the team.

Upon receiving her appointment as captain, Morgan used her own record-breaking experience of recent weeks to inspire the team before her:

“Last Wednesday when the bar got up to two metres (at the Zurich Diamond League) it didn’t phase me as I was expecting it. When it was my turn to attempt it, I cleared it, at the first attempt,” she recalled.

“Then the shock of what happened hit me and all the emotions came flooding in. I’d achieved one of my biggest goals in my career without even realising it and I shocked myself with how relaxed and effortless it felt.

“Go out onto the track in Tokyo with the sole focus on being the best and most comfortable version of yourselves. Just try to run, jump or throw as fast, high or as long as you can. Go out there knowing you aren’t facing the best in the world, you are the best in the world.”

Theresa Lindsay, Chief Marketing Officer at Novuna, title Sponsor of the British Athletics Team said:

“Congratulations to Morgan Lake on being chosen by your teammates to lead them in Tokyo. With such an incredible squad behind you, we know the Novuna GB & NI team will be inspired to give their best. As Title Partner, Novuna is proud to stand alongside you  as you take on the world’s best.”
