MAGNITUDE OF BRITISH PARA-STARS HEAD TO SWITZERLAND FOR ARBON GLORY
A plethora of Britain’s best Paralympic wheelchair athletes will head to Arbon this weekend for the Daniela Jutzeler Memorial in Arbon, Switzerland, before heading onto the Swiss Nationals, also in Arbon.
Thirteen World Para Athletics (WPA) world and European Championship medallists will take to the track as Britain’s best para-athletes and rising stars continue their journey towards the World Championships in November.
Multiple Paralympic, world and European champion in the T34 classification, Hannah Cockroft (coach: Jenni Banks; club: Halifax), returns to the track where in 2017, she set two of her four world records, looking to build off the back of a strong performance at Stoke Mandeville earlier this month.
Fellow world record holder in the T53 200m, Sammi Kinghorn (Ian Mirfin; Red Star) will look to build on her quartet of victories from last weekend in the 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m in the United States as she continues her return to action.
The four-time World Para Athletics World Championship and triple European Championship medallist is the only other defending world champion from Great Britain competing.
In the T33 classification, 100m Paralympic & WPA World Championship bronze medallist Andrew Small (Rick Hoskins; Stockport) and 100m European & world silver medallist Dan Bramall (Peter Wyman; Stockport) will join WPA European 100m champion Harri Jenkins (DSW Para Academy) on the track, the latter fresh from setting a 100m PB of 18.32 (1.5) earlier this month.
Six-time European medallist Ben Rowlings (Ian Mirfin; Coventry) and fellow international medallist Isaac Towers (Peter Wyman; Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde) will be in action in the T34 classification, whilst T51 world and European 100m medallist Steven Osborne (Jenni Banks; Dartford), is also in action.
After a double victory on the roads of London in the Vitality 10000 and Westminster Mile, Daniel Sidbury (Christine Parsloe; Sutton & District) will return to the track in the men’s T54 class, with some strong competition in the field joining him in Arbon.
Richard Chiassaro (Jenni Banks; Harlow) heads back to the venue where he smashed the British T54 400m record last season, clocking 44.39s for victory, and will be joined by European 400m bronze medallist Dillon Labrooy (Jenny Archer; Weir Archer Academy) and four-time European medallist from Berlin, Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins; Halton & Frodsham).
More international medallists will be heading out to the Swiss Nationals as Commonwealth Games T53/54 marathon silver medallist JohnBoy Smith (Jenny Archer; Weir Archer Academy) and clubmate and 10 times an international medallist, Mo Jomni (Archer; Weir Archer Academy) in action.
