LYNSEY SHARP ANNOUNCES HER RETIREMENT FROM THE SPORT

Lynsey Sharp has announced her retirement from the sport today (13 December).

Sharp became a European champion and Commonwealth medallist during her athletics career and competed at two Olympic Games in London and Rio.

One of her earliest senior honours during came at the 2012 European Championships when she won 800m gold. The title coming just a few weeks before the London Olympic Games.

She would win European silver two years later in Zurich, and the same year she won silver for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games on home soil in Glasgow, one of the proudest moments of her career.

After a semi-final appearance on her Olympic debut in London, the three-time senior British champion would finish sixth in the 800m final in Rio de Janeiro four years later.

Earlier in her career she enjoyed success in the age group Championships, winning European U23 bronze and Commonwealth Youth Games bronze over 800m.
