LATEST UPDATE ON THE BRITISH TEAM FOR THE EUROPEAN ATHLETICS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

There have been several changes to the British team set to compete at the European Athletics Team Championships Super League this weekend in Silesia, Poland.

Daniel Bainbridge (coach: Michael McNeill, club: Shaftesbury Barnet) [Javelin], Reynold Banigo (Lukasz Zawila, Sale Harriers Manchester) [Long Jump], Harry Coppell (Scott Simpson, Wigan & District) [Pole Vault] and Kirsty Law (Zane Duquemin, Sale Harriers Manchester) [Discus] have been called up in the field events.

Ellie Baker (Jon Bigg, Shaftesbury Barnet) [800m], Maisie Grice (Bud Baldaro, Aldershot, Farnham and District) [3000m Steeplechase], Amy Hillyard (Stewart Marshall, Birchfield) [4x400m Relay], Lina Nielsen (Ryan Freckleton, Shaftesbury Barnet) [400m hurdles] and Revee Walcott-Nolan (Dale King-Clutterbuck, Luton) [3000m] are brought in for the track events.

Reynold Banigo has a season best of 7.88 metres to his name from the Loughborough Open earlier in May. He earns a call-up to his first senior GB & NI team for the event in Silesia.

In the discus, Kirsty Law merits her selection after improving her personal best to 58.82 metres in April. The Scottish athlete was eighth at the last European Athletics Team Championships in Bydgoszcz. Meanwhile, Daniel Bainbridge joins the team to compete in the men’s javelin having thrown a personal best of 73.73m earlier this month.

Men’s British record holder Harry Coppell is called-up for the pole vault. He cleared 5.45m for third position in poor weather conditions at the Müller Grand Prix Gateshead at the weekend.

In the track events, Ellie Baker replaces Adelle Tracey in the 800m, while Maisie Grice will make her senior GB & NI debut over the 3000m Steeplechase, and Revee Walcott-Nolan will race over 3000m. Lina Nielsen, who recently set a lifetime best, comes in for Jessie Knight in the women’s 400m hurdles, and Amy Hillyard (Stewart Marshall, Birchfield) is added to the women’s 4x400m relay squad.

Also, Emily Diamond (Benke Blomkvist, Bristol and West) [4x400m relay] and Amy Hunt (Joe McDonnell, Charnwood) [4x100m relay] will no longer travel to Poland and have withdrawn from the relay teams.

The British line-up will face teams from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain in the two-day fixture.

Coverage of the European Athletics Team Championships will be on Saturday 29th May – 1430-1830 and Sunday 30th May – 1200-1525 BST live on the BBC Red Button, iPlayer & BBC Sport app.
