Lake looking for Diamond League success in Lausanne
Fresh from her stunning 1.96cm personal best to win the British Athletics Team Trials, Morgan Lake (coach: Fuzz Caan) will return to action in the Swiss town of Lausanne, which plays host to the eighth leg of the 2017 Diamond League series on Thursday 6th July.
Having been in fine form all season, the Loughborough University student reached new heights on Saturday, and will be extremely competitive on Thursday if she can produce a similar level of performance.
Fans of both British and world athletics will be delighted to see Laura Muir (Andy Young) back in action on the track after a few weeks on the side-lines. Having opened her season with a strong 4.00.47 run for third in a world class 1500m field in Eugene, Muir hasn’t raced since due to a minor foot injury. Now back into full training, the double European Indoor champion will contest the 800m in Lausanne ahead of a one mile outing at the Müller Anniversary Games on Sunday.
Lynsey Sharp (Terrance Mahon) is also in the field, and she’ll look to bounce back from a third place finish at Team Trials on Sunday; the duo line-up in a quality field that includes Francine Niyonsaba and local favourite Selina Buchel.
Fresh from winning her fourth straight British title on Sunday, Eilidh Doyle (Brian Doyle) is back in Diamond League action, aiming to get some points on the board in the 400mH. With the new scoring system for 2017, which sees the top eight (or twelve depending on event) in each event invited to the Finals, Doyle will want to finish as high as possible.
In the field, another British champion from the weekend, Lorraine Ugen (Shawn Jackson), will go head to head with the likes of Ivana Spanovic and Tianna Bartoletta in what is a hotly anticipated women’s long jump. Having to miss Team Trials with concussion sustained in a car crash en-route to the Alexander Stadium, Shara Proctor (Rana Reider) is also on the start list, subject to a late fitness test.
Runner-up in an extremely tight men’s 100m on Saturday, James Dasaolu (Lloyd Cowan) will look to build on his 10.11 season’s best set in the final at Team Trials. With conditions in Lausanne often favourable, Dasaolu will hope to post a swift time as he fine tunes his preparations for London 2017.
Tiffany Porter (Jeff Porter) will return to action in the women’s 100m hurdles, lining up against a world class field that includes Pamela Dutkiewicz and American duo Jasmin Stowers and Sharika Nelvis.
Catch the action live on Eurosport 2 on Thursday night between 7-9pm.
