11th June 2018

Ten-time world champion and five-time Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft will take to the London Stadium track at this summer’s iconic Müller Anniversary Games on 21-22 July 2018.

Many of Cockroft’s career highlights have taken place inside the stadium, last year winning a hat-trick of world titles to become the most decorated British para athlete in the history of the world championships.

It was also the location of her unforgettable breakthrough onto the global stage in 2012, winning two gold medals at that memorable Paralympic Games in the capital.

This will be Cockroft’s fifth appearance at the Müller Anniversary Games, taking part in the very first staging of the legacy event in 2013. She will take on the T34 100m at the 2018 edition, alongside compatriot Kare Adenegan who was announced a couple of weeks ago.

She delivered an electric display to set a world record over 100m in the Stadium last year on her way to world gold – the time a rapid 17.18 – so she has an impressive recent record in the capital.

Upon being announced as the latest world-class athlete addition to the event, Cockroft said:

“I’m honestly so excited to be racing at the Müller Anniversary Games for a fifth time this summer – the event is always amazing and is one I’ve been a part of year on year since London 2012, but every time I get the chance to compete again is just as exciting as the first.”

On the advantages that come with racing in a stadium she knows so well and has accomplished so much in, Cockroft added:

The London Stadium has such a special place in my heart and is where I made the connection with the British crowd that has only got stronger over time.

“I’ve just had a good spell of competition over in Switzerland, but that was without my main competition being present.  They will be at the Muller Anniversary Games so I know that the challenge will make for a very exciting race”

Cockroft lines up in one of four para athletics events already announced for the Müller Anniversary Games, with additional events to be confirmed soon.

The 25-year-old added: “Athletics is a fantastic sport for a family audience and seeing some of the best global para athletics stars in events on the same platform as the Diamond League events is a really strong message to show to the rest of the world. There is no place quite like London to compete so I really hope the fans come out and support us again this year.”

Major Events Director Cherry Alexander commented:

“I am delighted to welcome Hannah to the Müller Anniversary Games once again. She is one of the leading names in the sport so it is extra special to invite her back to the stadium where she produced three incredible displays last summer at the best ever World Para Athletics Championships.”

“She always brings her best performance for the British crowd, and I’m sure this year will be no exception.”

Para Athletics events at the Müller Anniversary Games are split as follows:

  • Saturday 21st July: T61 Men’s 200m and T11 Women’s 200m
  • Sunday 22nd July: T34 Women’s 100m and T37/38 Women’s 200m

More events to be confirmed soon.
