GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND TEAM FINALISED FOR 2024 WORLD 100KM CHAMPIONSHIPS
The final additions to the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team have been announced today for the IAU World 100km Championships which take place in Bengaluru, India on 7 December 2024.
With four athletes previously selected earlier this year, two women and four men have been added to the squad as the British teams target medals at the Championships.
Dougie Selman (Corstorphine AAC), James Turner (Allison Benton, Brighton & Hove AC), Sarah Webster (David Leach, Northern (IOM) Athletic Club) and Melissah Gibson (Ealing Eagles Running Club) were previously announced after strong performances at the Trial at the Sri Chinmoy 100km in April.
Jarlath Mckenna (Tyne Bridge), Alex Milne (Hercules Wimbledon), Chris Richardson (Metro Aberdeen Running Club) and Joe Turner (Nick Anderson, Cambridge and Coleridge) all add further firepower to the men’s team who finished fifth at the last edition of the Championships in 2022.
Turner was third in the Trial earlier this year with a time of 6:35:37, while Richardson was just behind him in the race in 6:40:44.
Mckenna hold a personal best of 6:37:19 from last year and won at the West Highland Way this year, while Alex Milne (Hercules Wimbledon) comes into the event after a ninth-place finish at the prestigious Comrades Marathon recently.
In the women’s race, Newquay athlete Julia Davis (Robbie Britton, Newquay Road Runners) joins Webster and Gibson after finishing behind the pair at the Trial in 7:25:48
Harrogate’s Caroline Turner (Marcus Scotney, Harrogate) holds a best of 7:41:52 from the Sri Chinmoy 100k Paris in June this year.
