GB & NI U20 TEAM NAMED FOR 2025 LOUGHBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL

A team of 50 rising stars has been selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2025 Loughborough International Athletics match on Sunday 18 May.

The U20 squad features a mix of European U20 medallists, British champions and emerging talent, as they prepare to take on athletes representing Loughborough, England, Scotland, Wales, and the National Athletics League in the traditional curtain-raiser to the outdoor season.

Among the standout names in this year’s GB & NI U20 squad is Teddy Wilson (Marvin Rowe, Shaftesbury Barnett), the reigning Commonwealth Youth Games champion and European U18 100M record holder. He will also line up in a strong 4x100M relay team alongside Dean Patterson (David Watson, Glasgow Jaguars) and Joel Masters (Jon Cuff, BFTTA), with whom he secured a silver medal at last year’s World Athletics Junior Championships.

Also returning to international action is Thea Brown (Ashley Bryant, Sale Harriers), who claimed silver in the heptathlon at the 2024 European U18 Championships and will compete in both hurdles and high jump events in Loughborough. Joining them is Otis Poole (Joy Bray, Yate), the current UK Indoor high jump champion, and Maddie Down (Mike Bennett, Halesowen), who represented ParalympicsGB in both the T38 100M and long jump at the Paris Games and will compete in the Long Jump this weekend.

Middle-distance talent Shaikira King (John Skevington, Wreake & Soar Valley) also features prominently, having won silver in the 800M at the 2024 European U18 Championships and added a bronze medal at this year’s UK Indoor Championships. Her inclusion highlights the depth of young talent heading to Loughborough, where the team will contest a full programme of events, including para-athletics disciplines and mixed-gender relays. With a dynamic blend of championship experience and emerging promise, this U20 team is well placed to embrace the challenges of the season opener and set the tone for a summer of major international competitions.

The event will see GB & NI field teams in a full programme of track and field events, with additional entries in the women’s and mixed 4x100M and 4x400M relays.

Darren Ritchie, Team Leader, said: “The Loughborough International always provides an exciting opportunity for our U20 athletes to test themselves against senior opposition early in the season. We’ve selected a team packed with talent, and for many this will be an important stepping stone toward summer championships and beyond. It’s a great development opportunity and we’re looking forward to seeing them rise to the challenge.”
