GB & NI U20 TEAM AND PARA TEAM NAMED FOR 2026 LOUGHBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL

UK Athletics can announce a strong team of 51 future stars and emerging talent to represent the Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland (GB & NI) at the 2026 Loughborough International Athletics meet on Sunday, 17 May.

Loughborough International will be hosted at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium, the high-level competition brings teams representing England, Wales, Scotland and Loughborough students together to kick start the track and field season.

With the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in August and the European U18 Championships in Rieti, Italy, in July, this will be a prime target for many of those selected, making it an ideal opportunity to gain international experience in a competitive environment.

Alongside the Novuna GB & NI U20 team, a selection of para-athletes has been selected for the Novuna GB & NI team to compete in the invitational para-athletics events that Loughborough will host.

The U20 squad features a mix of European U18 and U20 medallists and British Champions. Among the standout names in this year’s team is Tito Odunaike (David Johnson, Marshall Milton Keynes AC), this year’s UK Athletics Indoor triple jump Champion, who at just sixteen years of age became the youngest ever winner of the men’s British title.

Returning to the team is Shaikira King (John Skevington, Wreake & Soar Valley), who won silver in the 800m at the 2024 European U18 Championships and finished fifth at last year’s U20 European Championships.

Fellow 800m runner and U18 European Champion Mathew McKenna (Martin Norman, Walton AC) will be looking to build on his indoor form as he targets the World U20 standard.

New to the team is 17-year-old Freddie Rowe (Havering AC, Patrick Gahagan), he will feature in the men’s mile event. He became the youngest winner of the Bannister Mile in a time of 4:00.88. This places him third in the all-time list of British U18 athletes, behind Steve Ovett and Steve Cram.

After a successful cross country season, helping the GB junior men’s team finish fifth at the World Cross Country Championships in January in the USA, Alex Lennon (Nick Hancock, Sutton & District) will contest in the men’s 3000m. Kitty Scott (Michael Woods, Aldershot Farnham & District), who made her international debut out in Florida earlier this year, will feature in the women’s mile.

The Loughborough International will again include several para events. World finalist Arthur Milles (Trevor Cummings, St Mary’s Richmond), a T13 athlete, will feature in the men’s 1500m.

 Team Leader, Sharon Morris said;

“Congratulations to the athletes selected. I very much look forward to the Loughborough International Athletics meet every year, as it is a fantastic competition. The team we have selected has lots of potential, and for many of them, it is a key development opportunity to go up against the best on a major stage and rise to the challenge.

“For some of the team, this will be their first time wearing the Novuna GB & NI vest, it’s an exciting time for our U20 athletes ahead of the upcoming global age group championships in the summer.”
