GB & NI THROWING TEAM KICKED OFF THE SEASON IN CYPRUS AT THE EUROPEAN THROWING CUP

Fresh from making her senior international debut at the European Indoor Championships, Serena Vincent opened her outdoor season with a season’s best of 17.15m on her fourth attempt to finish sixth in the women’s shot put at the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus.

In the hammer throw competition, Jake Norris continued his fine form by consistently throwing further with every attempt, resulting in a season’s best throw of 75.61m on his last attempt to finish seventh.

It was double delight in the women’s hammer, as Charlotte Payne threw a season’s best with her last attempt of 67.51m and senior debutant Amber Simpson was close on her heels with a season’s best of 67.29 in the B final.

Paris Olympian Nick Percy opened his season with an eighth-place finish in the men’s discus, throwing a season’s best of 60.69m on his last attempt.

On her senior international debut, Zara Obamakinwa finished in sixth in the B final of the women’s discus with a best throw of 54.21m.

Ben East finished fourth in the U23 javelin throw, with 73.41m, just 45cm behind Ireland’s Oisin Joyce in third. The top two had to throw personal bests to top the podium.

On his junior international debut, Piers Cameron finished seventh with a best throw of 17.73m in the fifth round in the U23 shot put.
