GB & NI CONTINGENT ALL SET FOR WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS OREGON 2022

The World Athletics Championships Oregon 2022 get underway on Friday 15 July with several Great Britain and Northern Ireland athletes kick starting their campaigns.

Nick Miller (coach: Tore Gustafsson, club: Border) is the first Briton out on the field of play on Friday at 17:05 BST in the men’s hammer throw qualification, while Joel Clarke Khan (Robbie Grabarz, Worcester) is making his Worlds debut in the men’s high jump qualification at 18:10, and the mixed 4x400m relay GB&NI team will go in heat one at 19:45.

The evening session is jam-packed for the British contingent with Sophie McKinna (Paul Wilson, Great Yarmouth) and Amelia Strickler (Zane Duquemin, Thames Valley) going in shot put qualifying at 1:05am UK time, with Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson, City of York) later going in the men’s qualification at 2:55am.

Olympic bronze medallist Holly Bradshaw (Scott Simpson, Blackburn) goes in women’s pole vault qualification alongside Molly Caudery (Scott Simpson, Thames Valley) at 1:20am as they look to earn a spot in the final on Sunday 17 July.

The women’s 1500m and men’s 100m heats dominate the track programme for the evening with five GB & NI athletes competing.

Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir (Andy Young, Dundee Hawkhill) is first up in heat one before Katie Snowden (Herne Hill) and Melissa Courtney-Bryant (Rob Denmark, Poole) go in heat two and three – the first heat starts at 2:10am.

Zharnel Hughes (Glen Mills, Shaftesbury Barnet) and Reece Prescod (Marvin Rowe, Enfield & Haringey) will be waiting for the outcome of the men’s 100m preliminary rounds before their heats are published. The 100m heats get underway at 2:50am.

Should the GB&NI mixed 4x400m relay team qualify through the morning heats – qualification is first three of each heat (Q) plus two fastest times (q) qualify to Final – then the first medals of the Championships will be up for grabs at 3:50am.

Live coverage will be available on the BBC throughout the 10 days of action, and full details can be found here: https://www.bbc.com/sport/athletics/62125848

#WhereItStarts

#WhereItStarts tells the amazing stories of what athletics means to all of us in the UK. Those stories start in communities, homes, families, clubs, and in a multitude of ways. They are rich stories of diversity, inclusion, unity and empowerment. But all of them lead back to striving to greatness, together.

#WhereItStarts kicks off one of the biggest summers in UK track and field ever – celebrating a summer of incredible events with unprecedented access to our athletes through new content strands, exclusive behind the scenes access and competitions for fans.

Alongside this action-packed summer of athletics, the GB & NI team will be unveiling a redesigned Nike federation kit which is sustainable and is tailored for athletes’ needs. For more detail on the kit please click here.
