Three of the quartet in the A final finished within nine seconds of each other, with Jess Martin (Ryde Harriers) leading the way in 16th in 33:09.61.

Team captain, Amelia Quirk (Bracknell AC, Luke Gunn) was a place just behind in 33:15.33, and Charlotte Danant (Camberley & District AC, Kyle Bennett) was 18th in 33:18.04 on her senior international debut.

Lucy Jones (Herne Hill Harriers) was also making her senior GB bow and clocked 33:25.13 to finish 22nd.

Fellow debutants Lizzie Wellsted (Colchester Harriers AC) and Holly Weedall (Vale Royal AC, Dean Miller) finished 11th and 16th respectively in the B final. Wellsted stopped the clock in 34:35.09, with Weedall coming home in 35:35.86.

That was enough for fourth overall, behind champions Italy, runners-up Ireland and third-placed Spain.

Both male members of the squad took to the start line in the B final and Ramsden (Blackburn Harriers & AC, Edmund Finucane) timed his charge to perfection to take the victory in 29:11.69.

Ramsden surged past Czechia’s Martin Zajic with around 150 metres to go and sprinted up the home straight to earn a notable success.

Jack Kavanagh (Holland Sports AC, Neil Danby), another debutant, was sixth 29:47.08.
