FIRST BRITISH ATHLETES SELECTED FOR 2026 IAU WORLD 100KM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Four athletes have been selected to represent the Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at the IAU 100km World Championships in Ames, Spain.

The biannual competition will take place on 20th September, with the Novuna GB & NI team looking to build on their success of the 2024 World Championships in Bengaluru, India, which saw the women’s team take silver and the men’s team win bronze.

Thomas Almond (Reigate Priory AC, Robbie Britton) and Dave Barratt (Salford Harriers) have been selected for the men’s team, and Nicole Funnell (Springfield Striders RC, Edwina Sutton) and Katie Young (Running Club, Neil Bryant) for the women’s team.

All four athletes competed in the recent Anglo-Celtic Plate in Limerick, Ireland, which incorporated the UK Athletics 100k Championships. A key event for bringing ultra-running talent together to compete, and an important developmental fixture for 100k running in the UK & Ireland.

Barratt crossed the line in 6:31:04 and now sits fifth fastest on the UK all-time rankings, helping secure the win for England in a sunny Limerick. In the women’s race, Young crossed the line first in 7:50:34, just a minute ahead of Funnell in second, helping put England at the top of the podium.

Thomas Almond, Dave Barratt and Nicole Funnell were all running their first 100k road race, with Almond and Barratt stepping up from marathons and 50k races, and Funnell an experienced trail runner moving to road distances.
