2024 European 100m Champion and 2019 200m world champion and multiple British record holder Dina Asher-Smith will race over 200m at the London Athletics Meet on Saturday 20 July.

The 28-year-old – who moved to the US at the end of 2023 to be coached by Edrick Floréal in Austin, Texas – swept to victory in Rome in 10.99 on Sunday 9 June, in an epic race at the European Athletics Championships.

Prior to taking the title she had enjoyed a series of strong performances this year to date, most recently clocking 10.96 in her championship semi-final and 10.98 for third in the 100m at the Prefontaine Classic (25 May).

She started the year in style with a 36.77 British indoor record over 300m in January. In March, the four-time European champion and multiple world medallist led off an all-star 4 x 200m team who ran the fastest women’s time in history at the Texas Relays.

Her British records at 100m (10.83) and 200m (21.88) were set in 2019, the same year she won her global title.

“Coming home to London to race in the Diamond League is going to be pretty special for me,” said the Blackheath & Bromley athlete who is a two-time Olympic bronze medallist in the 4 x 100m relay. “Last year’s performance gave me a lot of confidence going into the World Championships and with big goals for Paris, I hope I can do the same over 200m this time around.

“Obviously I’m not alone in my ambition to win an Olympic title, but I’m doing everything I can to put myself in the best possible position to make it happen. I’m loving it in Austin and I have an incredibly talented group of athletes to train with. We’ve made some changes to my training and I’m already seeing the benefits. I’m in really good shape and I’m genuinely excited for the rest of the season.”

The London Athletics Meet – which will see the return of the world’s best athletes following a record-breaking sell-out in 2023 – is the tenth meeting of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League series. It is the UK’s biggest one-day athletics event and takes place six days before the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, making it the perfect prelude to Paris.
