EIGHT ATHLETES SELECTED FOR EURO COMBINED EVENTS TEAM CHAMPS

British Athletics have today announced an eight-strong team for the European Combined Events Team Championships Super League in Lutsk, Ukraine on July 6-7.

Fresh from adding a first national outdoor title to his maiden indoor crown in Bedford last month, John Lane (club: Sheffield & Dearne; coach: Toni Minichiello) will lead the experienced team with six of the eight having competed at the last European Combined Events Team Championships Super League in Tallinn, Estonia in 2017.

Welsh record holder Ben Gregory (Birchfield Harriers; Aston Moore) and Andrew Murphy (Kilbarchan; Colin Sinclair) will join Lane in the decathlon once again, the latter having made his British debut at the event in 2017, while Commonwealth bronze medallist Jessica Taylor-Jemmett (Sale Harriers Manchester; Joe Frost), Katie Stainton (Birchfield Harriers; David Feeney) and Jo Rowland (Crawley; Minichiello) are back for the heptathlon.

Murphy’s selection comes less than two weeks after he improved his personal best to 7427 points at the IAAF Combined Events Challenge Meeting in Arona, Spain while at the start of the month Stainton was just 27 points shy of her personal best in her first completed heptathlon since August 2017 in France.

Lewis Church (Tonbridge; David Hull) will make his senior British debut as Lutsk hosts the last ever edition of the event and completes the men’s quartet in the decathlon having finished third behind Lane and Gregory at the England Athletics Senior Combined Events Championships in May. Ellen Barber (Yeovil; Feeney) joins Stainton, Taylor-Jemmett and Rowland in the heptathlon and like Lane, Gregory and Church was on the podium in Bedford last month, claiming silver.
