DAVIES AND WARNER IN ACTION IN PODEBRADY

The British duo of Bethan Davies (coach: Andi Drake, club: Cardiff) and Heather Warner (Martin Bell, Pembrokeshire) put in solid performances at the European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady, Czech Republic on Sunday (21) May.

Davies started off her campaign early in the morning in the women’s 35km race walk and put in a season best performance as she clocked 3:00.13 for 14th position overall.

In a race which saw Maria Perez (ESP) set a world record of 2:37.15, the Briton went through 20km in 1:40:54 after consistent 5km splits saw her sit in 11th position. Three athletes would move past the Welsh athlete in the closing stages of the contest, but she held her composure to finish in the third fastest time of her career.

In the 20km race, Heather Warner would finish the race in 26th place overall with a time of 1:38.13.

The women’s 20km race was won by Greece’s Antigoni Ntrismpioti in 1:29.17, just two seconds ahead of Italy’s Antonella Palmisano.
