COUNTDOWN TO THE MÜLLER BRITISH ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The countdown to the 2021 Müller British Athletics Championships has officially started, with less than 100 days to go until the UK’s biggest stars take to the track and field, with many aiming to secure a seat on the plane for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The event will take place over the weekend of the 26th & 27th June 2021 and will be held at the Manchester Regional Arena for the second time, after hosting the event behind closed doors last year.

This is one of the biggest events on the British Athletics calendar and the action is expected to be as hotly contested as ever, with selection for Tokyo and British titles all up for grabs.

Last year’s event saw a world record, a world lead, multiple Championship and stadium records all set as British champions were crowned.

Harry Coppell rewrote the history books, setting new British, Championship and stadium records as he won gold in the men’s pole vault on a stellar opening day.

Coppell was joined in making history by Hannah Taunton who broke the women’s T20 5000m world record while Sophie McKinna set a new stadium record in the women’s shot put.

Aimee Pratt’s world lead, Championship, and stadium record on route to the women’s 3000m steeplechase title led the star performances with Daniel Rowden, Holly Bradshaw, Phil Norman, Callum Wilkinson, Marc Scott and Craig Murch all breaking the Manchester Regional Arena record in their respective events.

The competition has often provided a springboard for Britain’s best athletes to achieve glory on the global stage – and the 2021 edition will be no different.

With the Olympic and Paralympic Games now firmly on the horizon, the 2021 Müller British Athletics Championships will provide extra motivation for the leading British names with two days of scintillating action drawing ever nearer.
