COMMONWEALTH CHAMPION AND WORLD LEAD NICK MILLER LEADS HALLE THROWS TEAM

British Athletics has selected a 10-strong team to represent the country at the Halle International Throws event on 26 – 27 May.

Current world lead and 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist in the men’s hammer throw, Nick Miller (coach: Tore Gustafsson) heads the line-up and will be looking to continue his fine start to 2018 which saw him become the first Briton to ever throw over 80m with a British record of 80.26m.

Bronze medallist on the Gold Coast Mark Dry and Chris Bennett (Michael Jones) will also travel out to Germany, looking to improve upon their season’s bests of 73.12m and 75.11m respectively.

Olympic bronze medallist Sophie Hitchon (Gustafsson) threw a season’s best of 73.22m at the end of April and will looking for a solid competition in her tenth appearance at the event.

Taylor Campbell (John Pearson), who won his fourth BUCS championships title earlier this month, competes in the men’s U23 hammer, while his brother Bayley Campbell (Paul Dickenson), who has achieved the 71.50m standard for July’s World Junior Championships in Tampere, will look to continue his fine season in the U20 hammer throw.

Elsewhere, British duo Sophie McKinna (Mike Winch) and Rachel Wallader (Richard Woodhall) will battle it out in the women’s shot put, looking to build upon excellent form which led to their respective fifth and sixth place finishes on the Gold Coast.

Sarah Omoregie (Gareth Lease) and James Tomlinson (Paul Jensen) will compete in the women’s U20 shot put and men’s U20 discus respectively, both are chasing qualifying marks for the IAAF World Junior Championships.
