CHARITY CROWDIE CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED FOR MÜLLER BRITISH CHAMPS

British Athletics has today officially launched its Crowdie campaign allowing dedicated and loyal fans the chance to be part of the Müller British Athletics Championships in Manchester while contributing towards two charitable causes.

Scheduled to start under the lights of the Manchester Regional Arena on Friday 4 September and broadcast live on BBC2 now half an hour earlier from 1800-2100 before continuing during the day on Saturday 5 September and live on BBC1 from 1315-1630, the Müller British Athletics Championships will mark the first major outdoor athletics meeting of the year.

Due to government guidelines, the Championships will be held behind closed doors this year however that won’t stop fans being part of the action in Manchester. Officially launching today, fans can create their own personalised Crowdie to cheer their favourite athletes on as they bid to become British champions.

Crowdies allows fans to design and purchase a 76cm x 46cm ‘life-sized’ personalised corex board cut out and can:

  • Be the fun gift for a friend or family member who is missing out on the championship weekend!
  • Treat yourself – make sure you are part of the crowd and we’ll capture as many of you on camera as we can!
  • Be a big well done – nominate, upload and pay for someone else to have their Crowdie – and tell us a bit about why they’re deserving of a special mention on our channels.

All profits generated from the Crowdie campaign will go towards two extremely worthy causes – WeLoveMCR who support and inspire Mancunians to make their city a fairer, safer, cleaner and friendlier place, and NHS Charities Together, which is a collective experience representing, supporting and championing the work of the NHS’ official charities.

To start on the home straight at the Manchester Regional Arena, each Crowdie will cost £19.95 and each purchase will receive a personalised e-certificate. Orders must be placed by August 20 to ensure your Crowdie is in place for the Championships. For more information and to purchase please visit https://crowdie.britishathletics.org.uk/.

Treating yourself or buying for a someone special? We’d love to hear your stories celebrating athletics and its amazing fans. Make sure you tell us who you’re buying for and why by emailing majorevents@britishathletics.org.uk.

Cherry Alexander, Major Events Director at British Athletics, said: “With the Müller British Athletics Championships unfortunately set to take  place behind closed doors this year in line with government guidelines, it is fantastic that we are able to be offer the best athletics fans in the world the chance to still be in Manchester cheering their favourite athletes through our Crowdie campaign. It has been great to get the support and interaction from athletes for this campaign – Holly Bradshaw and Emily Diamond have both been a great help with creative ideas. We are also delighted to be donating all profits to two extremely worth causes. WeLoveMCR is a charity so close to the hearts of people in Manchester while NHS Charities Together does truly outstanding work helping NHS staff, volunteers and patients. We can’t wait to see everyone’s Crowdies in the stands.”

The Müller British Athletics Championships will be broadcast live on Friday night on BBC2, now 1800-2100 and Saturday afternoon on BBC1, 1315-1630.
