BRITS READY FOR EUROPEAN THROWING CUP

Three British athletes will be in action at this weekend’s European Athletics Throwing Cup in Split, Croatia on the 8-9 May 2021.

All three will compete on Saturday 8 May with Chris Bennett (coach: Andy Frost; club: Shaftesbury Barnet) and Taylor Campbell (John Pearson; Windsor Slough Eton and Hounslow) in the men’s hammer, while Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson; City of York) will go in the men’s shot put.

Last month at the scottishathletics Spring Throws Invitational Meet, Chris Bennett threw over 75 metres in the hammer throw for the first time since 2018, with an effort of 75.69m. For the Scottish athlete, who competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, it was the third furthest throw of his career.

At the end of April, Taylor Campbell improved his personal best to 75.82m at the Lee Valley Field Open. The Windsor Slough Eton and Hounslow athlete improved his PB to 74.98m in 2020, building upon his bronze medal success at the World University Games in 2019, so his effort last month was the first time he threw over 75 metres.

The men’s hammer competition will begin at 14:15 (BST) on Saturday.

In the men’s shot put, Scott Lincoln will pull on the Great Britain and Northern Ireland vest once again. The City of York athlete is in the best form of his career after a season best of 20.29m recently. During the truncated 2020 season he improved his personal best to 20.65m.

The men’s shot put will start at 17:15 (BST) on Saturday.
