BRITISH TRIO LOOKING TO SHINE IN SHANGHAI DIAMOND LEAGUE

The IAAF Diamond League programme continues on Saturday morning in Shanghai with a trio of British Athletes in action on the track.

CJ Ujah (coach: Stuart McMillan) and Reece Prescod (Jonas Dodoo) will both take to the track in the men’s 100m final, facing off against Andre de Grasse (CAN), in his first 100m race of the season, and home favourite and World Indoor silver medallist, Bingtian Su (CHI).

Ujah has recorded a season’s best of 10.08 in Torrance, California, as he finished fourth, most notably behind Ronnie Baker (USA), while Prescod’s best result so far is a 10.39, clocked at Loughborough for BUCS Trials last month.

Andrew Osagie (Mark Rowland) is the other British athlete under the microscope in a strong men’s 800m field, including last year’s Diamond League runner up, Marcin Lewandowski (POL) and Clayton Murphy (USA), who in 2016, ran his way onto the top 100 all-time 800m times, recording 1:42.93 at the Olympic Games.

Osagie is straight back in track action following the Commonwealth Games in Australia last month and is looking to lower his outdoor 800m best from 1:48:20, recorded on the Gold Coast.

Other notable appearances come from women’s triple jump gold medallist from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Caterine Ibarguen (COL), along with three-time Olympic women’s shot put medallist Valerie Adams (NZL) and World Indoor silver and bronze medallists, Danniel Thomas-Dodd (JAM) & Lijiao Gong (CHI).

Olympic gold and silver medallists in the men’s 110m hurdles Omar McLeod (JAM) and Orlando Ortega (ESP) face off once again, while Shaunae Miller-Uibo (BAH) begins the defence of her 200m title, taking on Dafne Schippers (NED) and Marie-Josee Ta Lou (CIV), who won in Doha last week.

The programme kicks off at 10:40am (BST) at Shanghai Stadium.

The Shanghai Diamond League will be live on Eurosport from 11:50am on Saturday, 12 May. Highlights of the event will be shown on BBC Two on Sunday, 13 May from 12pm.
