BRITISH TEAM CHOSEN TO #REPRESENT AT EUROPEAN 10,000M CUP IN LONDON

British Athletics has today announced the selection of a maximum 12 athletes set to #REPRESENT Great Britain & Northern Ireland on home soil at the European 10,000m Cup at Parliament Hill in London on May 19.

Jenny Nesbitt (David Walker; Worcester) leads the six women selected, fresh from her Commonwealth Games debut on the Gold Coast where she received a late call up for Wales in the 10,000m.

Charlotte Arter (Chris Jones; Cardiff) and Faye Fullerton (Georgina Fullerton; Havering) are set to wear the British vest again after both earned selection for the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in March.

They’ll be joined by Phoebe Law (Mick Woods; Kingston & Poly), who finished fourth in the 10,000m at the European Under-23 Championships last year. Louise Small (Mick Woods; Aldershot, Farnham & District) and Claire Duck (Mike Baxter; Leeds City) both return to the European 10,000m Cup having made the British team 12 months ago.

Like Arter and Fullerton, Ben Connor (Steve Vernon; Derby), Luke Traynor (Andrew Kastor; Glasgow City) and Mohamud Aadan (Paul Oppe; Thames Valley) all competed at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia in March and now form part of the six British men chosen for London.

There is also Olympic pedigree in the form of Ross Millington (Vernon; Stockport), who made his Games debut in the 10,000m at Rio 2016, while promising 20-year-old Alex Yee (Kenneth Pike; Kent) earns his maiden senior British visit and Sam Stabler (Rob Denmark; Wreak & Soar Valley) completes the team with victory in Armagh in February among his efforts this year.

With six women and six men selected, Britain will contest for team medals in both events at the European 10,000m Cup, which will be integrated into the A races at the Night of 10,000 PBs at Parliament Hill on May 19 and also acts at the British Championships and trial for the Berlin 2018 European Championships.

Team Leader Chris Jones said: “The European 10,000m Cup is an important marker on the 2018 calendar and we are pleased to announce a full British team for what will be a great event. By selecting a full team of 12, we are showing our intent to earn the highest possible placing in both the men’s and women’s team standings. The team is a good mixture of those used to big events, including the European 10,000m Cup, and promising talent on the pathway to future major championships. We are encouraged by the performances so far this year and look forward to coming together as a British team to achieve our best in London.”
