BRITISH ATHLETES READY TO GO AT 2024 EUROPEAN THROWING CUP
Eight Great Britain and Northern Ireland athletes will be in action at the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal on 9-10 March 2024.
Amelia Campbell (coach: Zane Duquemin, club: Thames Valley), Serena Vincent (Mike Winch, City of Portsmouth) and Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson, City of York) will contest the shot put competitions; Campbell and Vincent on Saturday and Lincoln on Sunday.
Lincoln has a strong history in the event after winning bronze at the 2021 edition in Croatia, while Campbell – who competed at the World Indoors last week – will be joined by Serena Vincent in the women’s event. Vincent won the U23 category last year – the first time a Briton has achieved the feat – and followed that up with silver at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland last summer.
Jake Norris (Paul Dickenson, Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow), who was victorious at the UK Winter Long Throws event earlier this month, will represent GB & NI in the hammer on Saturday afternoon. Katie Head (Paul Head, Newham and Essex Beagles) will compete in the women’s event on Sunday.
Ben East (Luke Angell, Team Kennet) – 2023 UK champion – goes in the men’s javelin (U23) on Sunday, while Nick Percy (Zane Duquemin, Shaftesbury Barnet) and Zara Obamakinwa (Mark Chapman, Blackheath & Bromley) will contest the discus; the men’s competition getting underway on Saturday and the women’s on Sunday.
There will be live coverage on the European Athletics YouTube page. Full details HERE.
