60M WORLD CHAMPION & WORLD RECORD HOLDER CHRISTIAN COLEMAN HEADS 100M AT MULLER GP BHAM

The world’s fastest man this year over 100m, it has today been confirmed that Christian Coleman (USA) will headline a stacked 100m field at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham on Sunday 18 August.

Both the world record holder and world indoor champion over 60m, Coleman returns to Birmingham as the fastest man this year over 100m this year courtesy of a scorching 9.81 in June.

No stranger to success in Birmingham following world indoor gold and victory in the 100m at last year’s Muller Grand Prix Birmingham, Coleman heads back to the second city fresh off the back of winning the USA 100m title at last week’s championships in Iowa.

Arguably the clear gold medal favourite for the IAAF World Championships in Doha come September, competition to Coleman in Birmingham comes in the form of many multi-medalled athletes from across the world.

Among those, and a man who is running right back into form, is Canada’s Andre de Grasse. Having won three Olympic medals in 2016, de Grasse has returned to form in 2019 after a spate of injuries and ran his first legal sub-10 time since 2016 with 9.99 at the Müller Anniversary Games

Other contenders in the 100m come August 18 are sub-10 and sub-20 seconds man Adam Gemili (GBR, coach: Rana Reider, club: Blackheath & Bromley), multi-Olympic and world medallist Yohan Blake (JAM) and Commonwealth champion Akani Simbine (RSA).
