A look back on 2025 - European Athletics Team Championships
The 2025 European Team Championships in Madrid marked an important mid-season moment for the Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland team, bringing together athletes across disciplines for three days of closely contested competition.
By the end of the championships, GB & NI had finished fifth overall, with performances that reflected a blend of established international experience and athletes taking early steps at senior level.
Among the standout individual contributions was Samuel Reardon, who produced a championship record and personal best of 44.60 in the men’s 400m. The run represented a significant milestone in his season and placed him seventh on the European under-23 all-time list.
Eugene Amo-Dadzie also continued a consistent run of form, winning the men’s 100m in 10.07 on day two before later contributing to a third-place finish for the men’s 4x100m relay team on the final day. In the men’s 400m hurdles, Alastair Chalmers delivered under pressure, clocking 48.64 to finish second and add valuable points in a tightly contested event.
The championships also offered opportunities for several newer faces to gain senior international experience. Gemma Tutton produced a personal best of 4.45m in the pole vault on the opening day, finishing fifth on her senior debut. Kimani Jack cleared a lifetime best of 2.21m in the high jump to place seventh in his first senior international appearance, while Tiarnan Crorken finished second in his B race in the 800m and tenth overall, navigating a competitive field.
Still an under-20 athlete, Abigail Ives competed confidently in the women’s 800m, finishing sixth.
Across the three days in Madrid, contributions came from across the team, with points accumulated steadily in both track and field events. The combination of experienced performers delivering when required and athletes gaining exposure at senior level helped shape a consistent team performance, culminating in a fifth-place finish in a closely fought championship.
