British Mountain Running Championships and Inter-Counties Mountain Race 2025
Nancy Scott (Aldershot Farnham and District AC) and Ross Gollan (East Sutherland AC) secured victory in the UKA British Mountain Running Championships held over the Pen-y-Ghent, Yorkshire, a 12.2km run with a 612m climb.
The race incorporated the Inter-Counties Mountain Race, where Scott also led the Surrey team to a bronze medal, whilst Yorkshire did the double, taking the gold medal for both the men’s and women’s races.
The start of the women’s race opened with a torrential rain shower, which passed by the time the athletes reached the summit. Nancy Scott and Elle Twentyman (Derbyshire/Rugby, Northampton AC) were in a battle well clear of the rest of the field with Scott taking the win. U20 athlete Isla Paterson (Gala Harriers) finished third, securing the bronze medal in the British Championships. As she was not part of a county team, fourth-placed runner Eve Pannone (Cumbria/Ambleside AC) took the Inter-Counties bronze medal.
The Inter-Counties U23 medals went to Ellen Weir (Surrey/ Thames Hare and Hounds), Amelie Lane (Yorkshire/ Wharfedale Harriers) and Georgia Ledingham (Scotland East/ Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds).
Fifteen counties fielded complete teams in the women’s race, with the Yorkshire team taking the gold, one point ahead of Cumbria in second, with Surry two points behind in third.
The storm had passed by the time the men’s race began, where Ross Gollan took the victory over U23 athlete Finlay Grant (Derbyshire/Dark Peak Fell Runners), a repeat 1-2 from the recent UKA Fell & Hill Championship in Scotland, with Oscar Subuh-Symons (Surrey/) taking third place. Scotland East runners Thomas Hilton (Moorfoot) and Harris Pagett (Strathearn Harriers) claimed the silver and bronze U23 medals.
There were 23 male teams, with the Yorkshire’s runners emulating their women’s team with a victory of five points over Derbyshire, who claimed silver. Lancashire finished in a close third place, just one point behind, as their final runner finished just behind the last counter from Derbyshire.
