50 DAYS UNTIL THE MÜLLER BRITISH ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

There are now just 50 days to go until the Müller British Athletics Championships at the Manchester Regional Arena in the North-West of England.

Held in the city for the first time since 2007, the Championships will see the best in Britain once again fight it out for the chance to be named British champion, while some will use the competition as an opportunity to test themselves in competitive action.

World finalists and European medallists have already confirmed their attendance at the championships, including European indoor silver medallist in the pole vault, Holly Bradshaw (Scott Simpson; Blackburn), while reigning British champion and World Championship finalist Abigail Irozuru (self-coached; Sale Harriers Manchester) will once again do battle with 2016 European silver medallist, Jazmin Sawyers (Lance Brauman; City of Stoke).

Jake Wightman (Geoff Wightman; Edinburgh) achieved a stunning fifth-place finish in Doha in 2019 and will look for his first British title outdoors over 1500m, with Tom Bosworth (Andi Drake; Tonbridge) looking to reclaim his 5000m race walk crown, following Callum Wilkinson’s stunning British record last year.

World Championship 5000m finalist and triple British outdoor champion Eilish McColgan (Liz Nuttall; Dundee Hawkhill) will take on four-time 1500m champion and 2019 bronze medallist over 5000m, Laura Weightman (Steve Cram; Morpeth).

More stellar names will be announced over the coming weeks as we get closer to the Müller British Championships. The format and shape of the competition and guidelines that will be adhered to for competitors and those helping to stage the championship will be subject to the government guidelines in place and will be communicated in due course.

The championships will be broadcast live on Friday night on BBC2, 1830-2100 and Saturday, afternoon on BBC1, 1315-1630.
